Greater Powell Veterans Memoral

At times of war we tend to be more mindful of the sacrifices our military men and women make.  The reality of it is we should be thankful every day, because even in times of peace our military protects our freedom.  The Greater Powell Veterans Memorial is being built to honor all Veterans Past, Present & Future.
The work on the Memorial began in the Summer of 2004, after a local soldier was killed in action in Iraq.  How do you reach out to that family and tell them thank you for their sacrifice?  We cannot forget this soldier or the many before him or after him who have sacrificed one way or another.  As they say “all gave some, some gave all”.  This Memorial is our attempt to say thank you to all Veterans and their families for their sacrifice.
The designer of the Memorial is a WWII Veteran, “the greatest generation”. We are in hopes that many WWII vets  will be in attendance for the parade and dedication ceremony.  This is a generation we are quickly loosing.  We do not have much longer to tell them “thank you for your sacrifice!”
Additional honorees are being invited and it will be a day to remember.
The granite for the monument has been delivered and is being prepared for engraving.  The footers are to be installed by the end of March and the monument pieces should be installed by the end of April.
The work for the Memorial is being done by Columbus Art Memorial, under the direction of the GPVMF.  We as a committee are very proud of the work we have accomplished and cannot wait to see the culmination of our efforts.
We hope to see all of you Memorial Day, May 26, 2008!

Dedication Ceremony - May 26, 2008

The completion of this Memorial has brought together many different types of people all with their own personal reasons for contributing their time and money to make this Memorial happen. The final stretch of this journey needs a large group of volunteers to help make the parade and dedication ceremony  honorable, respectful and an event to remember.

We need help with:
Final fundraising
Correspondence
Brick details
Landscaping
Media awareness
Parade preparations
Parade workers
Veteran escorts
Guest speaker organizers
Guest performer organizers
Ceremony preparations

Invitations to area Veterans
Dedication Program layout
Refreshments
And whatever I have forgotten!!

Many hands make light work!
The involvement of scout troops, church groups, neighborhoods, and families will be appreciated.
